Federal judge denies Harris County motion to delay start of bail reform order

HOUSTON – A federal judge has denied a request by Harris County commissioners to delay the  beginning of a bail reform order.

The order will eliminate cash bail for poor people arrested on low-level charges if they cannot afford to post bail.

The order to release inmates is scheduled to go into effect May 15.
