HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a man was killed during a drive-by shooting Tuesday night.
Cornelius Williams, 35, was pronounced dead at Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital.
Williams and his 6-year-old nephew, who police said was in the front seat at the time of the shooting, were traveling in the 12200 block of Swan River around 8 p.m. when he was shot.
He tried to drive away, but crashed into a fire hydrant in the 6100 block of Moss Oaks Drive.
Witnesses removed the child from the vehicle and tried to help Williams.
"He was bleeding out, and I heard the baby crying, so I just looked in the car to make sure everybody was OK and I called 911. And they were, like, 'Make sure he has a pulse or something like that,'" witness Laporsche Calhoun said.
The child was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Police said they believe Williams was targeted in the shooting.
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
