HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and other state and local officials on Tuesday made their case for protecting the southeast Texas coast against flooding.
The mayor held a news conference where a movie was shown that depicts the critical need for what is called a coastal spine to protect the upper Texas Gulf Coast from storm surge.

According to the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, "The film depicts the devastating effects a direct hit by a strong hurricane in Houston would have on the local, state, and national economy. The film also calls on citizens to contact their federal elected officials and let them know now is the time to act on a Coastal Spine."
The mayor was joined by Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership President Bob Mitchell. Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush was originally slated to attend, but canceled Tuesday morning.
