Robinson Elementary students start school on new campuses

HOUSTON – Hurricane Harvey damaged Robinson Elementary so severely that the Houston Independent School District said it is splitting
up the school's students among two other schools.

Students in pre-kindergarten through second grade will attend Pleasantville Elementary, while children in third grade through fifth grade will attend Holland Middle School.

Parents and members of the community met with board members Wednesday to discuss what the transition would look like for the students. The district prioritized the schools from least to most severe damage by testing the air quality, among other things.

HISD board of trustee member Diana Davila and chief school officer Jorge Arredondo said Robinson and Pleasantville were ready to receive students from Robinson.
Parents have questioned how students will make up school days missed during Harvey.

The Texas Education Agency approved waivers that exempt students from making up the first nine days missed due to the storm. HISD will hold a meeting Thursday to vote on how the missed days should be handled.
