HOUSTON – Four more schools in the Houston Independent School District began classes Monday for the first time since Hurricane Harvey.
Students at Bellaire High School, Key Middle School, Mitchell Elementary School and Northside Elementary School began their school year three weeks late.

Most HISD students reported for classes last week after flooding from Hurricane Harvey damaged every facility in the district.
Students at the most significantly damaged schools will begin their year Sept. 25 at other buildings, while crews work to repair the schools. Those schools are: Scarborough Elementary School, Hilliard Elementary School, Robinson Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, Kolter Elementary School, Braeburn Elementary School, Askew Elementary School, Burbank Middle School and Liberty High School.
Principals have been communicating with parents of their students about where school will be held.
Twelve schools will have their days extended during the school year to make up for the lost time.
The following schools will have 25 minutes added each day: Bellaire High School, Northside High School, Key Middle School, Robinson Elementary School and Mitchell Elementary School.
The following schools will have 55 minutes added each day: Liberty High School, Forest Brook Middle School, Braeburn Elementary School, R.P. Harris Elementary School, Hilliard Elementary School, Kolter Elementary School and Scarborough Elementary School.
HISD’s school year was originally scheduled to begin Aug. 28.
