HOUSTON – A Crosby man was arrested Tuesday for impersonating a public servant after he maneuvered through traffic using emergency lights and a siren mounted on his truck.
Tyler Clayton Thames, 28, was arrested by Harris County sheriff's deputies. He’s being held on $5,000 bond.
Witnesses say drivers pulled over for Thames at the intersection of FM 1960 E and Atascosita Road as he drove through in a black, lifted Chevy pickup truck with red and blue emergency lights flashing, and a siren blaring.
One of the drivers noticed a custom license plate on Thames’ truck that read, “BYEHATR.” When the motorist saw Thames pull into a Best Buy store he called 911.
Deputies say when they questioned Thames he told them he’d mounted the emergency equipment on his truck to get through traffic more quickly.
Thames admitted he isn’t a police officer, but state records show he has had experience with the judicial system. His arrest record includes convictions for DWI, burglary of a vehicle, theft, and a 2012 probated sentence for felony drug possession.
