In-N-Out Burger's plans for west Houston restaurant on hold for now

Company says other locations being scouted

HOUSTON – If you’re trying to get your In-N-Out Burger fix in Houston, you’ll have to wait a little longer, company officials said.

KPRC 2 reported earlier this year that the popular California-based burger joint purchased the property at 8373 Westheimer Road, just east of Dunvale Road in May.

A company spokesman said then that it would “be more than a year before any further progress develops.”

Carl Arena, a spokesman for In-N-Out, said Friday in a statement to KPRC 2 that plans for the Westheimer property can’t happen anytime soon.

“While we own the Westheimer property, it has an existing tenant lease in place for several more years so we are not at this time processing any plans with the city to build a restaurant there,” Arena said in the statement.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel, however. Arena said the company is working on some other potential sites in Houston.

“But everything is so early in the discussion phase that it is impossible to provide a timeline for a store opening,” Arena said in the statement.

So if you want to grab a “Double-Double” anytime soon, you’ll need to hit the road. At 161 miles away, the locations closest to Houston are in Austin and San Marcos. There’s also In-N-Out restaurants in San Antonio.
