Father killed, pregnant mother and infant injured after gunman shoots into home

HOUSTON – A man was killed and his pregnant girlfriend and their infant were injured after a gunman fired several shots through the window of a southwest Houston apartment, police said.

Westside patrol officers were called around 2:30 a.m. to the El Paraiso Apartments in the 7700 block of Corporate Drive for reports of a shooting.

Police found 23-year-old Alexander Clark, his girlfriend Opara and three children in the home.

Clark was shot and taken to a hospital, where he died.

Clark's pregnant girlfriend was also shot. She is expected to survive.

The condition of the unborn child was not immediately known.

The couple's 5-month-old was grazed by a bullet and is expected to be OK.

The other children were not injured.

“Can you please pray for me,” said Clark’s mother Wanda Edose. “Nobody can help us but God.”

She said her family is from Mississippi and moved to Houston four years ago. Clark and Opara had been dating since they moved to Houston and have two children together.

The unborn child would have been their third.

Police said no witnesses have come forward. They said they are looking for surveillance video.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
