PASADENA, Texas – Two men were shot in the parking lot of Sam Rayburn High School on Tuesday, according to Pasadena Independent School District police.
Pasadena ISD said two men in their early 20s were delivering supplies to a relative on campus for a choir performance earlier in the night, and as they were about to leave, a gun accidentally went off inside the car.
"They were driving off, the gun went off, shot one of them in the hand and the other in the stomach," said Art Del Barrio, director of communications for Pasadena ISD.
Both men were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries and are expected to be OK.
"I was coming to pick up my son from his basketball game and all I see was taping here, and I'm, like, 'What happened?' It's kind of scary knowing that my kids go here," Amanda Ramos said.
Police will decide if charges will be filed.
"Luckily, no students were injured. I don't believe any students were in any danger at the time, just two people being reckless with a gun," Del Barrio said.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Previous information given by school officials has been updated to show that the people involved in the shooting are not students at the school.
