HOUSTON – Harris County Sheriff’s Office is looking for three to four men accused of an armed robbery and carjacking in east Harris County.
Deputies said the call came in around 3:46 p.m. Thursday from the Chase Bank at 15252 Wallisville Road.
“An employee from BRINK'S was out of the vehicle, servicing the ATM, she was approached by a black male suspect with a pistol being pointed at her,” Lt. Jeff Stauber with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Robbery Division said. “He told her, ‘You know what time it is,’ and she dropped the money, he picked the money up, and went back to the suspect vehicle.”
Deputies said the other BRINK'S worker driving the armored vehicle saw what was happening and rammed into the front of the robbers' truck.
That’s when one of the men got out and started shooting at the BRINK'S truck.
No one was hurt, but one of the bullets pierced a backseat window of a car parked outside Osaka Japanese Steak and Sushi restaurant.
“I was about to get sat down in the restaurant,. As soon as we heard the gunshot, we tried to run towards the back away from the windows and once we heard the truck go away, we came outside to check what was happening," said Diego Hurtado.
Hurtado said after they went outside to check on the armored truck workers, he noticed the bullet pierced his backseat window.
“Thank God nobody was injured through this process and at this location right here there were shots fired. I’m not sure how many shots, but definitely shots fired after the BRINK'S driver rammed the vehicle,” Stauber said.
He said the robbers' truck was drivable but severely damaged.
They drove to a neighborhood about a block away and dumped their truck on Owendale Dr. and then carjacked a man passing through.
“I stepped out and they jumped out, told me hurry up get out the way,” said Bruce Howard who said he was carjacked.
“Two guys, one in that truck and another ran on the side of it, one that was running hit my glass with the gun and pointed at me and told me to get out and I got out and walked away,” Howard said.
Deputies said the men carjacked a 2014 blue Chevrolet Silverado Texas bearing the license plate JSY1407, the sheriff's office said.
“If they were going to shoot, they were going to shoot, it happened so fast. After I got thinking about it, it shook me up,” Howard said.
The robbers were described as three black males wearing jumpsuits, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators are asking people to come forward with any information and to call Crimestoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
