Woman says she was robbed at gunpoint outside Houston grocery store

HOUSTON – It’s her normal routine. Dora Suarez typically goes grocery shopping after work at Food Town near the intersection of Antoine and Veterans Memorial drives in Houston.

But Friday was not a routine day. Suarez said that as she was putting her groceries into her car at about 10:40 p.m., a masked man pulled a gun on her.

Suarez said she gave the man her car keys and purse as he instructed. She said he drove off in her car while the car he was in left with an accomplice behind the wheel.

“They took her car, her purse, her keys, everything,” Suarez said, through a friend who was translating. “Her immigration papers (were) in there.”

Without her permit, Suarez fears she may be deported to Mexico. She has called the U.S. home for 15 years. Suarez said it took a year for her to obtain her working permit and worries it might take another year to get a replacement.

“She needs a car right now, but it’s the papers,” Suarez said, through the interpreter. “She has nothing showing she’s documented.”

Suarez has also been losing sleep knowing her address and sensitive materials are in the hands of a thief. She worries what that person might do with her personal information.

She said police were able to use GPS to track and recover her broken cell phone but have not been able to locate anything else.
