SUGAR LAND, Texas – Three people were arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting and kidnapping that happened at First Colony Mall last month.
The shooting was reported the night of Feb. 26 in the parking lot of the Sugar Land mall.
Sugar Land police said that someone fired shots at another person after an argument. The person who was shot at fled the scene and later flagged down a Fort Bend County deputy near U.S. Highway 59 and Williams Way, police said.
Police said that the person told the deputy that he was with a friend in the parking lot of the mall when another group of people confronted them. The man said that during the confrontation someone pulled out a gun and shot at him twice, police said. The man said he jumped into his vehicle and fled, leaving his friend, who had run into the mall, behind, police said.
Police said they later determined that a woman was with the other two victims at the time of the shooting. She was kidnapped, beaten, held for ransom and later released, police said.
Investigators said that the victims were not forthcoming, and detectives later determined that the incident stemmed from an earlier theft of drugs and money in Rosenberg.
Eric Spillers, 20; Marissa Esparza, 21, and Alyssa Castellano, 20, all of Rosenberg, were charged with aggravated kidnapping in connection with the case. All three were being held on bond at the Fort Bend County Jail.
Police said additional charges could be filed against the trio.
