New city-county partnership aims to improve bike, pedestrian safety

HOUSTON – New plans are in the works to make Houston a safe and more bicycle-friendly city.

City and county leaders laid out their plans to improve mobility and reduce accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians.

Officials said $15 million will go toward new and improved bike lanes, making Houston streets safer.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said that the city is taking on Bike Houston’s challenge to complete 50 miles of bike-way projects within the next year.
