HOUSTON – A man accused of killing a mother Saturday after a possible struggle over her cellphone has been charged, Houston police said.
Investigators were called around 10:30 p.m. to the Reed Parque Townhomes in southeast Houston.
Police said the victim went to the store to buy some items for dinner and, when she returned home, she was approached by Dondrick Dejuan Flagg, 28, who asked to use her cellphone.
When the victim, identified as 29-year-old Tiffany McKnight, said no, a struggle broke out, police said.
McKnight was pronounced dead at the scene. She leaves behind a 9-year-old son, who is an honor roll student, according to friends.
A weapon was recovered from the scene, police said.
Houston homicide detectives identified the suspect as Flagg. He was arrested and charged with capital murder.
"I don’t normally come out because I’m so scared that something’s going to happen. You know, it’s a thing of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but how can it be wrong if you’re at your home?" said resident Carlene Cardona.
Police are working to determine the motive in this case.
