One dead in wrong-way crash on North Freeway

HOUSTON – One person is dead after a wrong-way driver on I-45 the North Freeway crashed into a semi-truck. 

According to police, the driver of a Mustang was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of the North Freeway near 2920 when the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the 18-wheeler and the Mustang blocking the left lanes of the freeway with catastrophic damage, police said.

According to authorities, the Mustang was torn in half during the crash and the adult male driver was killed in the accident. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

During the investigation, a second driver crashed in the area around 4:45 a.m., police said. 

According to authorities, the woman driving the second vehicle is suspected of DWI. She attempted to flee but police were able to stop her and take her into custody. 

The North Freeway has since reopened.
