HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – With early voting underway in the special election to fill Sylvia Garcia's state Senate seat, the four women hoping to replace her are taking their messages to voters.
The field included three Democrats: State Rep. Carol Alvarado, State Rep. Ana Hernandez and executive recruiter Mia Mundy. Also running is Martha Fierro, a Harris County Republican Party precinct chair.
The district is largely Democratic and covers most of east Harris County and parts of east and central Houston.
Political experts believe the established politicians, Alvarado and Hernandez, have the advantage and that the Dec. 11 election could end with a runoff between those two.
The Texas legislative session begins Jan. 8.
