HOUSTON – For the first time in the history of the Houston Texans, they traded up in the first round to select the player they targeted.

Their trade with Washington only moved up them one spot from 22 to 21, but it allowed them to draft Notre Dame speedster wide receiver Will Fuller.

"He's fast. He can run," Texans general manager Rick Smith said.

Not only is he straight-line, 40-yard dash fast, this guy plays extremely fast and quick," Smith continued.

"Adding that element to our offense, we all just felt would really enhance what we could do offensively."

Fuller ran a 4.32 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, the fastest time among wide receivers and the second fastest time overall.

In three seasons at Notre Dame, Fuller had 144 catches for 2,520 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns.

Last season, he caught 62 passes, for 1,258 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"I'm very confident," Fuller said in a conference call with the local media. "I got over 140 catches in my career."

He added, "I don't compare myself to anyone else, I feel like I'm the best.

"I'm going to be locked in and I'm going to be the best receiver in this class I believe," Fuller said.
