Crosby Middle School student hit and killed by car

CROSBY, Texas – Crosby Middle School is mourning the loss of one of its students after a teenage boy was struck by a car while going to school.

The accident happened around 6:10 a.m. Friday on Highway 90 in Crosby.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the boy was hit while riding his bicycle. Officials said the boy was thrown from his bicycle into a ditch.

LifeFlight responded to the accident and the boy was pronounced dead upon arriving to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was detained, but no further information was available.

Counselors were available to students Friday.

Crosby Middle School Principal Todd Hicks posted the following statement on Facebook:

"It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you today. CMS is grieving after receiving tragic news this morning that a Crosby Middle School student was involved in a fatal bicycle-auto traffic accident on Highway 90 in Crosby. The student was transported by ambulance to the hospital where his guardian met with emergency response officials to discuss the situation. Because of the student's age, and with respect to his parents, his name is being withheld at this time. Students and teachers at CMS are currently being made aware of the situation and grief counselors are on site to support students and staff members. Please keep this family in your prayers during this very painful time."
