TEXAS CITY, Texas – Firefighters said a fire displaced families and destroyed eight apartments in Texas City.
The massive flames shot out of a building inside the Gatsby Apartment Complex on Emmett F. Lowry Expressway. A part of the roof collapsed and firefighters could only battle the fire from the outside, officials with the Texas City Fire Department said.
Investigators said they believe the fire started on a patio and quickly spread.
“They were just billowing out of the roof, and there was black smoke, white smoke. It was real scary to look at it at first, knowing that you live here and all of your possessions may be gone,” Odessa Holmes said.
Firefighters said no one was hurt.
No word on what caused it.
