Family finds blue plastic object in half gallon of Blue Bell ice cream

HOUSTON – Luis Vasquez and his wife bought Blue Bell Cookies N' Cream ice cream because it's their kids' favorite.

"My kids love it so much they pretty much eat it every day," Vasquez said.

They were almost finished with the half gallon when Vasquez's wife noticed something strange inside the ice cream. At first glance they thought it might be a frozen, blue latex glove or maybe a piece of plastic.  It's blue and quite large. They aren't sure what it is but they know it's not supposed to be there.

"As soon as we saw it I told my wife to leave it alone, we didn't touch it," Vasquez said.  "Thinking about it now, there might have been plastic or a glove shredded in there and we might have eaten small pieces of it without even knowing."

Blue Bell Creameries told  Channel 2 News in a statement, "We will attempt to identify it in our Quality Control lab. Until we are able to analyze the object and determine its origin, we cannot speculate on any findings. We take all such matters very seriously, and we regret any inconvenience and concern this may have caused the consumer."

After the investigation, Blue Bell said it will share the results with Vasquez.  Their number one concern is consumer satisfaction and a spokesperson said they are committed to ensuring that every consumer has a pleasant experience eating their ice cream.

A representative from Blue Bell went to Vasquez's Houston home on Thursday to pick up the ice cream so the object can be inspected.

Vasquez told Channel 2, his days of buying Blue Bell are over, after everything Blue Bell just went through, he said he expected more from them.  He's disappointed.
