HOUSTON – Houston Councilman Larry Green was found dead Tuesday in his home on the southwest side.
Officials at Green's office asked Houston police to do a welfare check on Green after he did not show up for a meeting Tuesday morning. Police said Green was found dead in his home around 11:30 a.m. after they had to use force to enter.
They said the cause of death is unknown, but added that there was no foul play involved.

"I really want to say that we will miss council member Green. He was an advocate for economic vitality, for the safety of his community. He was there with HPD as we opened a new station in his area, and we are both saddened and shocked by his untimely death," said HPD Assist. Chief Baimbridge.
Several council members told Channel 2 Investigates that officials with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office informed them of Green’s death.
The City Council observed a moment of silence to begin Tuesday’s session. That was followed by speaker after speaker who remarked on Green’s life.

Members of City Council also called on people in the city to wear green on Wednesday to honor him.
Turner issued a statement in which he called Green a “groundbreaking advocate for equality, economic opportunity and neighborhood safety.”

Fellow council members called Green a good friend who will be deeply missed.
Former Houston Councilman Ronald C. Green, who used to work and intern for Larry Green, said Green was a "hometown boy" who had many roots in Houston and will be missed across the city.
"We are all saddened by Larry's passing. He was a great man and great council member. We offer our condolences to his family," Ronald Green said.
He said Larry's death was unexpected for his family and that he did not suffer from any medical condition or health issues.
Green, who was sworn into office in January 2012, represented District K, which runs from the edge of the Texas Medical Center to the southwest boundaries of Houston in Fort Bend County.

Green appeared on “Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall” last January and talked about preparations being made for Super Bowl LI, which was played at NRG Stadium in Green’s district.
“We knew we had to put on a great face for the world, because the world will be watching,” Green said during the interview.
A private practice lawyer for 21 years, Green earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Houston and a doctorate of jurisprudence from Texas Southern University.
