HOUSTON – Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a beloved school teacher and coach.
Officers Saturday found Kevin Roman dead inside his home in the 3000 block of Sparrow Street in Sunnyside. According to police, Roman had been shot several times.
Police said someone called them asking for a welfare check on Roman.
He spent the last 10 years working as a Bible instructor, softball and football coach at Clear Lake Christian School.
Roman, 39, left the school in May and joined KIPP Academy Middle School a few weeks ago.
In a statement a spokeswoman for KIPP Academy said, "Over the weekend, we received information that our new flag football coach had passed away. Although he had only been at KIPP Academy for a few weeks, he took the time to get to know our students and school. We have had counseling available on campus today and will continue to provide support. His family is in our thoughts and prayers."
At CLCS, colleagues remembered Roman as a man who dedicated his life to his students and said he didn't deserve to die like this.
"Whoever did this didn't have to. Kevin was the greatest guy, whatever you shot him to get he would have gave it to you," Robert Smith, who heads the football program at CLCS, said.
Investigators said Roman's vehicle is missing. It is a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with Texas license plate number FPS-4712.
Anyone with information about the murder or the missing vehicle is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
A GoFundMe account has been created through the Clear Lake Christian School community.
And Roman's Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers created a GoFundMe account.
