FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A husband and wife killed in a Fort Bend County shooting in which their two children were injured have been identified and authorities have ruled the case a murder-suicide.
Early Monday morning, the Fort Bend Sheriff's Office says an emergency call was made by the family's daughter from their residence in the 4800 block of Russett Lane. Deputies say they arrived to find the 15-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound.
Inside the home, deputies say they found the bodies of two adults -- Karim Kamdar, 46, and his wife, Nikhat Kamdar, 37. They also found their 11-year-old son who had also sustained gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation results indicate that the father used a handgun to murder his wife, wounded his two children and then committed suicide according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
Both children were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight. They underwent surgery and both are now listed in stable condition. Authorities say both children are expected to recover.
Detectives say they found a handgun inside the residence, but they are waiting on lab analysis and autopsy results to determine the shooter in the incident. No information thus far suggests involvement from a third-party assailant in this case, according to detectives.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. The shooting remains under investigation.
On Tuesday afternoon, a family spokesperson released a statement which read, "This is a time of profound grief and sorrow for our family. No words can express the pain and loss we feel. Our grief and pain is compounded by the unknown circumstances that have led to this tragic event. We would like to thank our neighbors and friends for their concern and support, and the law enforcement officials for their efforts to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic event. We would also like to thank the press for respecting our need for privacy and allowing us to bereave our beloved family member's death with dignity."
Principals at Brazos Bend Elementary School and Travis High School, where the two children attended school, sent letters home to parents making them aware of the incident. Counselors will be made available at both schools if any students need to talk.
