Innocent man killed in drive-by shooting at southwest Houston home

HOUSTON – A man was shot and killed while in his garage Sunday in southwest Houston.

The incident was reported just after 10 p.m. at a home in the 11800 block of Spring Grove Drive.

Houston Police said the victim is 60-year-old Ibrahem Lawal.

Police said Lawal was hit by a stray bullet intended for his neighbor during a drive-by.

Police said they believe a nearby resident got into a shootout with a gunman inside a vehicle when Lawal was caught in the crossfire.

His family is devastated because he was an innocent man and did not deserve this.

Police said Lawal was sitting inside his garage on Spring Grove Drive when several gunshots were exchanged between a passing car and someone nearby late Sunday night.

"I heard pop, pop, pop five or six times. A two second break and then more pop, pop, pop, pop," said neighbor Rosemary Tourtellot.

Witnesses said a car drove by several times.

"It was driving up and down driving up and down they were calling out the name of her son who was not home after that they just started shooting," Tourtellot said.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

No arrests have been made.

The victim's family said they moved to the United States from Nigeria  about 30 years ago for a better life.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
