In 2009, a young boy attending the camp was sexually abused by a counselor. The counselor went to prison. But the story does not end there.

KPRC was recently forwarded a copy of letter a parent told us was sent by Camp La Junta shortly before our initial investigation aired.

After reading the letter we again contacted Praesidium for a response.
“Praesidium cannot comment on the specifics of La Junta. As a general practice, we clearly communicate to our clients our standards for Accreditation and stay in frequent contact to help organizations implement best practice standards to become Accredited. We are no longer working with Camp La Junta,” Praesidium’s vice president of Youth Development Services, Britt Darwin-Looney wrote in an email to KPRC.
