Kate Upton wears hard-to-find Astros sweater to ALCS Game 7

She's not the only famous Astros fan to wear it

Justin Verlander #35 of the Houston Astros celebrates with model Kate Upton and the MVP trophy after defeating the New York Yankees by a score of 4-0 to win Game Seven of the American League Championship Series at Minute Maid Park.

HOUSTON – She's a supermodel, so naturally you would expect her attire to turn heads even while watching her fiancé Justin Verlander and his team advance to the World Series. But the sweater/jacket Kate Upton was wearing Saturday during Game 7 of the ALCS definitely got the attention of one KPRC2 producer.

As a die-hard Astros fan (and lover of all things rainbow throwback) I have been searching for that very sweater for months.

Upton was not the first famous Astros fan to wear that sweet piece of Astros apparel. The lead singer of The Suffers wore it while singing the National Anthem at the Astros game on Aug. 24. She looked fierce. (I see you, Kam Franklin!)

That is the day my (unhealthy?) obsession with the elusive Astros garment started. I literally love it...probably even more than Verlander and Altuve love each other.

I have since searched far and wide for the sweater. As a journalist, I pride myself on my investigative skills. But I could only find two leads: (1) an out-of-stock notice on Mitchell & Ness, and (2) a XXXL on eBay. #InternetFail

I even enlisted the help of KPRC2 anchor and shopper extraordinaire Sara Donchey. She was stumped as well.

Then I saw Upton wearing it Saturday night. That made me want it even more.

So imagine my surprise when I walked into work Monday morning and saw another producer (my longtime co-worker and friend Frank Espinoza) wearing the very sweater that has haunted my dreams for two months.

My badgering started immediately: "Where did you get that sweater?" Can I have it? I will buy pay you $200 for it right now!"

He gave very few details. He said his sister got it for him and he has no idea where she found it. I could see it in his eyes. He knows that sweater is special. #FriendFail

He did, however, let me take a picture in it while he was producing his Midday newscast. It appears that's as close as I will ever get.

Unless Upton or Franklin are reading this and want to give me the sweater off their backs?

You know I had to try.

*UPDATE:

Never underestimate the power of Kate Upton or a sweater-obsessed news producer! Shortly after this article was posted, Mitchell & Ness emailed Erica to let her know the sweater is being re-stocked!

They had the sweater back up on the website for purchase within two hours! Yes, our producer has placed her order (and can sleep soundly now).

The sweater is available in several sizes on the website now.
