DAVIE, Fla. – A large alligator lurking near two South Florida schools was captured Wednesday morning in Weston.
The Davie Police Department tweeted out a picture of its officers standing above the 11-foot alligator that measured in at 450 pounds.
Officers were called after the alligator, who is blind in one eye, was found on the side of the road near Griffin Road and Bonaventure Boulevard.

The officers, along with trappers, were able to capture the alligator.
"The alligator had a turtle in it's mouth when we actually noosed it, and once we got it up it opened its mouth and the turtle actually made it safely back into the canal," Anthony Berardo from the Davie Police Department said.
Cypress Bay High School and Falcon Cove Middle School are both located next to the point of capture, but students were in no apparent danger.
Still, people in the area said they are concerned.

"It does make me nervous, and I have two dogs. It makes me really nervous," Kathy Chavarria said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will determine whether the alligator will be put down or relocated.
