Man found ‘covered in blood’ now charged in apartment complex shooting, police say

HOUSTON – A 20-year-old man is now charged in the shooting of another man last week in northwest Harris County, police said.

Houston police shared a photo of Maycon Rodriguez on Monday.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 6400 block of Antoine Drive about 11 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Rodriguez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,

The victim, Mario Ponce, 19, was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition. Ponce was found on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, Houston police said. He was transported to the hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics. At the hospital he was able to provide officers with the identity of the shooter, according to police.

Houston police said officers saw Rodriguez at the scene, “covered in blood.” Police said he ran from officers when they arrived, but he was taken into custody without incident. A gun was located inside an apartment that, based upon evidence at the scene, appeared to be the site of the shooting, police said in a news release. Rodriguez was subsequently arrested and charged.
