Deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 15400 block of Bammel Field Court.

Deputies said someone was firing shots in the area when a stray bullet was shot through a field, hit a fence, traveled through a home and struck the 6-year-old boy in the lower groin, and exited through his buttocks.

The child was transported to the hospital in stable condition, but he was later upgraded to good condition, deputies said.

The suspects, according to deputies, may have been driving a newer-model, black-colored Camaro with tinted windows. Authorities also said the vehicle may or may not have the front license plate affixed.

Neighbors said they’ve made phone calls about the random gunshots and bullets that have hit surrounding homes multiple times. They are hoping this shooting is the last.

“I don’t get to enjoy mine because there’s a lot of shooting lately and I am terrified to come out here with all those shootings,” a 9-year-old girl told KPRC 2.

Deputies said they have received 21 calls for a discharge of firearms near Bammelwood Drive and Bammel Village Drive since the start of the year.

“We’re all together here. So, all we got is each other. By the time the cops get here, we file a report and it really doesn’t mean anything. We’re really trying to get something going here,” one neighbor and father said.

Another neighbor, who goes by Sylvia, said her house is among at least five that have damaged by bullets since July 4, 2020. She said she’d like whoever is shooting into her neighborhood to stop.

“Unfortunately, someone got hurt,” Sylvia said. “This has to stop because this is our neighborhood. Our kids deserve to be safe.”
