Pregnant mom grieving loss of husband following deadly hit-and-run

HOUSTON – A heartbroken young mother that is expecting her first child is now grieving the loss of her husband.

The victim’s wife said a car accident they were involved in last Wednesday night quickly escalated to a deadly confrontation. For her safety, she doesn’t want to share her identity.

“I felt like my life was over because he was the only one that I had,” said the victim’s wife.

The young mother, who is seven months along with their first child, said she and her husband Domingo Menchu, 33, were driving along Windswept Lane near Hillcroft and not far from home when they were hit by a truck.

“With all my force I told him not to get out, but he got out,” the victim’s wife said.

She said after her husband got out of their car to confront the driver, things turned violent.

“The guy in the truck grabbed him. From there, I couldn’t tell if he was hanging on or if the guy was dragging him,” said the victim’s wife.

The victim’s wife said the suspect kept driving before eventually crashing and pinning her husband who later died.

“It’s hard for me that he died like that. He didn’t deserve to die like that,” she said.

The family is now raising money to help with funeral expenses and get their loved one back home to Guatemala.

While the suspect responsible remains on the run, the victim’s wife is left devastated her husband never got the chance to meet their son in person.

“I feel very sad because he wanted to see his son. He wanted to see him, watch him grow. But it didn’t happen that way,” she said.

If you have any information about this case, you’re urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
