HOUSTON – A judge denied bond for a man accused of killing the 9-year-old daughter of his ex-girlfriend.
Jeremiah Jones, 22, stood before a judge Tuesday morning handcuffed and wearing a yellow jumpsuit.
He was charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The prosecutor laid out the alarming accusations against him.
Jones was accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend Brittany Sorrells and her 9-year-old daughter Khylie at their home on Oxford on June 13. Khylie died at a hospital.
Prosecutors said Jones was upset Brittany Sorrells had broken up with him two months before and he had even threatened to kill her the week before.
“It’s a case of great community concern. Anytime one of our children is victimized, it’s something that sort of strikes at all of our hearts in the criminal justice community. My thoughts are absolutely with the family this morning,” said Prosecutor Michael Hanover.
Jones was out on bond for evading arrest.
He was also accused of violating a protective order a different woman filed against him.
Jones has an extensive criminal background stemming back to when he was 12 years old.
