GALVESTON, Texas – The Coast Guard is searching for a 65-year-old man who went missing Thursday while boating near Galveston, officials said.
Officials received a call at about 7 p.m. from a woman saying her father was aboard a disabled 19-foot boat and needed help near the Galveston jetties.

While crews arrived at the scene and began searching for the vessel, officials said the command center watchstanders sent the man i911 pings to pinpoint his exact location. According to the Coast Guard, the man accepted only the first ping but other requests went unanswered.
After searching near the Galveston Fairway Anchorage and launching a flare to attract the boater’s attention, crews said they did not locate the disabled vessel.
At 9:15 p.m., Bayou City Pilots said they came across a vessel with a registration number matching that of the missing man’s boat near the entrance to the Galveston channel.
Officials said the Station Galveston boat crew diverted to that location while a Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched a search for the boater. A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boat crew also joined the search, Coast Guard officials said.
Other groups and officials joined the search but were reportedly unsuccessful.
Anyone with information that may assist in the search efforts of this missing boater should contact Sector Houston-Galveston at (281) 464-4851.
