HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a man was set up, ambushed, and shot in east Houston while giving a group of women a ride Thursday, officers with the Houston Police Department said.
HPD and HFD responded to reports of a gunshot victim in Clinton Park. Police said a man was located with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and transported to a nearby trauma center, where he is expected to survive.
According to investigators, the victim was at Planet Fitness and was asked by a group of women to give them a ride home on Armstrong.
Officers said when the man arrived on Armstrong to drop the women off, one of the women jumped out of the car as two armed men approached. One of the men opened the driver’s door, and the second man went to the trunk, HPD said.
Police said when the driver tried to flee, shots rang out and he was struck. The victim was able to flee about half a mile away from the scene before one of the women still in the car turned his vehicle off and took his keys. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
Officers are working to find the suspects involved.
