SPRING, Texas – A local OB-GYN in Spring suddenly closed down her practice and left mothers-to-be scrambling to find alternatives.
It’s unclear exactly how many patients are affected, but one couple who is just seven weeks away from their due date says they were left with little answers and no solution.
Terrii and Tommy Glover are expecting their first child.
“We’re almost to the finish line,” Terrii said.
A boy who they plan to name, Jaxon.
“We had an opportunity to be pregnant last year. That ended in a miscarriage. I have a back history of endometriosis and PCOS so getting pregnant again was unexpected, but we’re excited,” Terrii said.
The couple says they thought they had found the perfect OB-GYN. Routine visits were going fine, until last Friday when they said their doctor told them less than an hour before their ultrasound appointment that her practice was closing immediately.
“I was like are you serious? She was like ‘Yeah some things came up in life. There are three references you can reach out to. Good luck, somebody else can deliver your baby,’” Tommy said.
“I kind of thought I was getting punked, I kind of just thought that was like a joke,” Terrii said.
But when they came to the office, it had been cleared out. On the door, a lease default notice. The doctor told KPRC 2 she had to close abruptly due to sudden health concerns, financial issues, and family problems.
“I went into panic mode. I picked her because she specializes in high-risk pregnancies,” Terrii said.
The Glovers say so far they’ve called 31 doctors but due to the length of her pregnancy and being high-risk, they haven’t been able to secure a new OBGYN. Now they’re left wondering who will deliver their baby, putting out a plea to other local OB-GYNs.
“If you have some compassion in your heart, you can reach out to us or the newscast, and see if y’all can fit us in,” Tommy asked.
Jaxon is due on December 12, the same day as his father’s birthday. They say the greatest gift would be to have a doctor secured well before then, and the delivery goes smoothly without any further issues.
