Local attorney, philanthropist takes 40 single mothers on Christmas shopping spree

Forty single mothers were selected to go on a Christmas shopping spree on Friday, courtesy of a local philanthropist.

Justin Martin of IJustGotHit.com said they know how stressful the holidays can be, especially for single mothers.

“I was raised by a single mother, so I know what that’s like, I know what it looks like,” Martin told KPRC 2 Photojournalist Matt James. “This is one of my favorite events that we do each year.”

The law firm received over 1,000 calls to enter the contest and picked 40 of the most deserving voicemails from moms and grandmothers.

Each entrant received a $500 gift card to use during the shopping spree or save for later.

“For us, it’s just a part of giving back, it’s almost like a family reunion. That just happens to have a giveaway component to it,” said Martin.
