SUGAR LAND, Texas – A late night explosion woke up a Sugar Land neighborhood on Monday.
Security cameras captured what turned out to be a firework going off after being dumped from a white car in the Summerfield area around 11:30 p.m.
In the video, you can see the car come to a stop, the passenger door open and a bright object being tossed from the car before it speeds away.
Moments later, the video shows two explosions.
The sound was so loud it woke up neighbors, like Monica Velazquez, who shared the video with KPRC 2.
Her Ring camera also recorded dogs throughout the neighborhood barking after being startled by the blast.
According to Velazquez, multiple “explosions” like this were heard throughout the night.
“They were just going through neighborhoods just popping them,” she said. “They popped one close to the back of our home off the main road and that one shook the house. We thought it was a car accident.”
The minimum safe distance between you and ground display fireworks is 35 feet, according to firework manufacturer Phantom Fireworks. However, that distance more than quadruples to 150 feet for all aerial fireworks.
There was no damage reported from the fireworks.
