The Houston area was soaked with rain Friday morning; Here’s who saw the most

Some areas picked up over 3 inches of rain

HOUSTON – The Houston area got soaked Friday morning.

The storm system that passed through dropped some really healthy amounts of rainfall across the area.

While downtown Houston saw over an inch of rain, some areas along the coast saw more than that.

Computer models before the event showed the heaviest rainfall totals would be in coastal counties and that is exactly where they ended up. There was a swath of heavy rainfall that dropped over two inches of rain in Matagorda, Brazoria, and Galveston Counties. Bay City even had an estimated four inches of rainfall.

Galveston picked up 3.28 inches of rainfall. Dickinson came in with 2.72 inches. Further north, the rainfall accumulations weren’t quite as heavy, but still healthy with over an inch of rainfall being recorded in downtown Houston, Sugar Land, and Humble.

Galveston

Some areas like Galveston did see some street flooding from the heavy rainfall. Viewers sent in pictures from around the area showing the flooded streets and the rain. The KPRC 2 Storm Tracker was also out and saw flooded streets on the island.

A viewer also sent a photo of their rain gauge in the town of Blessing in Matagorda County showing three inches of rainfall.
