In a ceremony held at JW Marriott Houston by The Galleria, Mayor John Whitmire ceremoniously passed the symbolic “helmet” to the next host city for the College Football Playoff National Championship. Atlanta, the proud recipient of this prestigious honor, is set to host the 2025 CFP title game at the iconic Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making history as the first city to host the championship for a second time.
The decision to return to Atlanta was met with unanimous enthusiasm, as Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff, explained in a press release.

“Bringing the game back to Atlanta was a simple decision when we looked at everything,” he stated. Reflecting on the success of the 2018 title game hosted in Atlanta, Hancock emphasized the city’s unparalleled combination of a state-of-the-art stadium, a walkable downtown, and an array of venues capable of hosting the myriad activities that surround the national championship weekend. “Great people made Atlanta an obvious choice to be the first city to host a second title game,” Hancock concluded.
The College Football Playoff, a thrilling culmination of the season, features the top-ranked teams facing off in semifinal games. These matchups rotate annually among six prestigious bowl games: the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, Allstate Sugar Bowl, and Rose Bowl Game. The selected host city becomes the focal point of national attention, attracting fans from across the country to celebrate the pinnacle of college football.
