Missing woman’s vehicle found submerged with body inside in east Harris County, mother says

BAYTOWN, Texas – We are hearing from the family of Kiesha Lockett, the 39-year-old who was last seen at her job in Baytown on Aug. 17, 2023, but never came home.

“It was very unusual for Keisha not to call none of us. Not to use her money in the bank. Not to use her bank card since August 17. It was something wrong with the picture and no one listened,” Julia Lockett said.

Her family filed a missing person’s report with Houston police on Sept. 21 and said Lockett’s case never got any attention.

Months went by and Lockett’s family became concerned. On Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office found a car submerged in water in East Harris County. Julia Lockett showed up at the scene and said it was her daughter’s car.

“I’m just hurt. I’m very hurt. Sad. Disappointed. Just hurt,” she said.

Julia Lockett said she found out about her daughter’s Nissan Versa submerged in water through a Facebook group. She rushed to the scene off the East Freeway in Channelview.

“I asked them what was going on. They said it was a car in the water and there was a body in it. I had to go to the hospital,” she said.

Lockett says she has a feeling it is her daughter, Kiesha.

“I do…I do think it’s her. I just want confirmation. I do think it’s my daughter,” she said.

She doesn’t know who would hurt Kiesha but wants the person to come forward. Kiesha was last seen at her job at the St. James House nursing home on Aug. 17. On Sept. 21, she filed a report with Houston police.

“They were like, ‘She is grown and she may not want you to know where she is. I was like, ‘She wouldn’t do that. Keisha has never been that type of girl. She has always told us where she is going and who’s she’s with,” Lockett said.

Julia says her daughter lived with her.

“We ate Sunday dinner together and went to church together. She would never leave her siblings never leave her brother,” she said.

The family wants to know who would hurt Kiesha and how her car ended up in the water.

“I just want them to pay more attention to missing people and I will be an advocate for it,” she said.

The family is waiting to hear back from the medical examiner’s office.

If you know anything about this case, contact Houston Crimestoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

What happened

A deputy was flagged down about the car that was found under the East Freeway.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it was almost completely submerged and it had been there for a while.

“Many times it’s not uncommon to locate vehicles, it basically ends up being a recovery, stolen or something like that, but in this case once they were able to retrieve the vehicle, they noticed that there was a deceased body inside the vehicle,” Gonzalez said.
