‘Stop doing it’: Officers send warning after parking lot takeover in NE Harris Co. ends in police chase, crash

HOUSTON – A man is now in the hospital after leading police on a chase following a parking lot takeover in NE Harris County Thursday night.

Houston police said the chase started at a parking lot on Mt. Houston and U.S. 59.

Task force officers reportedly tried to stop the truck, but the suspect took off, ensuing the chase.

HPD officers and Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies pursued the suspect, but he ultimately crashed on the northbound feeder road, hit a light pole, and then flipped the truck.

Police said the driver was trapped inside the truck and had to be removed. He was then transported to the hospital with possible injuries.

A woman who was in the passenger seat was able to get out of the truck.

Houston police had a message for anyone involved in parking lot takeovers.

“Stop doing it. You know, just drive like normal human beings. It’s pretty simple, but these guys want to come out and put others in danger. It’s a bad situation for all,” one HPD officer said.

Houston police say the driver is facing a minimum charge of felony evasion.
