Mother, baby die in north Houston house fire

HOUSTON – A mother and her baby died in a house fire Saturday morning in north Houston, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Heaney Drive regarding a house fire.

When HFD got there the home was engulfed in flames. They were able to contain the blaze, and then they found the two bodies.

KPRC 2′s T.J. Parker learned the mother rescued her two other children from the fire.

“My sister that’s the first thing she did is to make sure that they’re OK,” said the sister of the mother, who did not want to be identified.

The mother then went back in to get her baby, and they succumbed to the fire.

Firefighters are still working to learn what caused the blaze.
