Students and staff will be moved to other elementary schools in the area. The district said there will not be layoffs.

The closures are also not due to budget or school performance issues.

School officials will provide more information on the closures at a later time.

Aldine ISD released the following statement:

Aldine ISD remains committed to providing students with the best education possible so they graduate from our district with choices and opportunities. To continue being the best choice for our families amid a constantly evolving educational and geographical landscape, on Tuesday, February 20, the Aldine ISD Board of Trustees approved the closure of Conley Elementary School, Sammons Elementary School, and Gray Elementary School at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year. Students will be rezoned to the closest schools.

Additionally, the boundaries of Lewis Middle School and Teague Middle School will be redrawn to send students to Stovall Middle School and Aldine Middle School.

These actions will ultimately result in an optimized school portfolio that enables us to provide the best facilities, teachers, and educational resources possible. Decisions were based on data that included facility utilization and condition, financial data, family choice, and academic outcomes.

The district does not anticipate any staff reductions and will work to find placement for those staff members impacted by the change. The district will also work closely with campus leaders to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff to the new facilities in the upcoming school year.
