HOUSTON – On Sunday, a Houston child was left in critical condition after her family’s Uber driver chased another vehicle and got into a crash.

The Uber driver was a Toyota van that was involved in a crash with a pickup truck, and the truck fled. The van then chased the other truck, and the van crashed into a light control box. The truck also hit the curb and collided with the column under the highway.

This begs the question, what should you do if your Uber or Lyft gets into a crash or other incident?

How to get help

  • Riders and drivers can report crashes or incidents through the Uber app here.
  • People can also call 911 or text 911 (where available) on the app through Uber’s emergency button.
  • If people use the emergency button, this will send significant information to 911. This will send the caller’s name, the license plate of the Uber car, and GPS information to officials.
  • Riders can also use Uber’s Live Help if they do not believe there is an immediate emergency. They can get a call or text from an ADT agent to remain on the phone with them during their ride. The agent can call 911 if necessary.
  • Lyft also has a similar feature on their app that allows you to connect with an ADT agent, and they can help you call authorities.
  • Lyft keeps an eye on your rides in case you veer off your route, and they’ll contact you if they notice anything unusual.
