It’s been only a week since we shared the story of Hazel and Louise on Click2Houston.com.

The two husky, pit bull and boxer mixes had been abandoned by their owner during the harsh freeze we experienced in January.

The sisters were found tied to a tree in the freezing weather by Amanda Mares, who took the girls into her home.

But Mares’ small townhouse in northwest Houston proved to be too small for the girls, and she reached out to KPRC 2 for help finding them a forever home.

We published her story and hoped for the best, and we’re happy to report that the article found its way to the right people.

“Guess what???!!!” Mares texted KPRC 2′s Faith Braverman.

“We found a family that wants to take BOTH the girls!!”

Mares wasn’t sure the dogs would be adopted together, even though it was something she desperately wanted.

“They cry when they’re not together,” she shared.

Mares said the article was seen by a woman in Brazoria County, and she is now getting her home ready for the girls.

Not only will the girls be adopted together, their new home sits on a whopping 40 acres!

“This was an answer to our prayers,” Mares said happily.

But that happiness is tinged with sadness as Mares prepares to say goodbye to Hazel and Louise next week.

“Giving them up is hard, but I know in my heart it’s what is in their best interest.”

We’ll check in with Hazel and Louise’s new owners next week. Check back with us for updates!
