Cleveland ISD closes for once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse

The next eclipse is not until 2044 and will not be near Texas

With the rare solar eclipse looming, Cleveland ISD makes a historic decision to close on April 8, recognizing it as a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity for students and staff to create lasting memories.

The statement canceling school was released on their social media pages in English and Spanish.

“It is not just “an eclipse”, this will be “THE ECLIPSE” for Texas. Cleveland ISD has decided to close for Monday, April 8th to allow students and staff time to be home with family & friends to experience this once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity event to make memories, take pictures, make videos together. The next eclipse is not until 2044 and it will be nowhere near Texas. Please remember to follow the recommended safety protocols for properly viewing the solar eclipse. We will see all students and staff back on Tuesday, April 9th.”

Cleveland ISD ha decidido cerrar el lunes, 8 de abril para permitir que los estudiantes y el personal de tiempo para estar en casa con la familia y amigos para experimentar esta vez en un evento de aprendizaje oportunidad de vida para hacer recuerdos, tomar fotos, hacer videos juntos. El próximo eclipse no será hasta 2044 y no estará cerca de Texas. Por favor, recuerde seguir los protocolos de seguridad recomendados para ver correctamente el eclipse solar. Veremos a todos los estudiantes y el personal de Vuelta el martes, 9 de Abril.”

On March 27 the school district announced on their social media that Cleveland ISD students would not be permitted to leave their classrooms or facilities to view the solar eclipse on April 8. However, later on, the district decided to cancel school for the day to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
