A HFD district chief said firefighters were able to get the fire under control and extinguished pretty quickly. The district chief said the building has been vacant and locked up for about five years and is owned by Houston ISD.
No injuries were reported either to firefighters or civilians.
The district chief said it is possible there were homeless people inside the building, but that is under investigation and the cause right now is not known.
