A few showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day on Wednesday. While it definitely won’t be a washout, be aware that there is the possibility a few people could get wet around the Houston area.

We are going with a 30 percent chance of rainfall during the day Wednesday. That number goes up as we head into Thursday when a line of storms looks to impact the area in the morning.

By Thursday morning, a line of storms which will have formed out across West Texas and the Hill Country will begin making its way into southeast Texas. While it appears the intensity of this line will be diminishing the further east it goes in terms of the potential for severe weather, heavy rainfall will be of concern, especially for areas to the north of Houston which already saw a large amount of rain late Sunday night into Monday morning.

Models are showing this line of storms impacting the immediate Houston area around 9 a.m. Thursday. While the severe weather threat doesn’t look very high right now, lightning, gusty winds, and very heavy rainfall will be possible.

By 11 a.m., this line looks to be hitting coastal areas such as Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula.

Because of the threat for very heavy rainfall in areas that have already seen a large amount of it this week, a moderate risk of flooding is apparent for areas from Houston northward. Lower risks of flooding exist for coastal counties.

Rainfall projections:

Computer models are indicating some areas could see an additional 1.5 to 2 inches of rain by Friday morning. There is also the chance for more storms on Friday in addition to the storms we will see Thursday morning.

Key takeaways:

  • Heavy rainfall is possible with a line of storms that will move through the area early Thursday morning.
  • Some areas could see and additional inch and a half to two inches of rain.
  • The severe weather threat is low but be aware the storms could contain a lot of lightning as well as gusty winds and very heavy rainfall.
