HOUSTON – A woman was killed after being hit by a METRO bus Friday morning in downtown Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The crash was reported at 7:40 a.m. on Rusk and Smith Streets at 7:40 a.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.

Preliminary information is a bus struck a female pedestrian about 7:40 am. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased.

The City of Houston confirmed the name of the woman killed was Damilola Matuluko. According to the city, Matuluko was an member of the City of Houston HR Operations Employee Relations team.
“Damilola Matuluko joined the City of Houston HR Operations Employee Relations team in December 2023, supporting the Houston Public Works Department. Although Damilola had only been with the HR Department for a short time, she had become a beloved and impactful team member. She will be sincerely missed by her colleagues in the City of Houston,” said City of Houston HR Director Jane Cheeks.
