4 rescued from balcony, 2 hospitalized after fire at north Houston apartment

HOUSTON – Four people were rescued from a third floor apartment balcony after a fire broke out at the complex in north Houston Monday.

The fire happened at a complex located at 206 Plaza Verde Drive in the Greenspoint area.

The Houston Fire Department responded after getting the call of the fire around 3:15 p.m.

When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the apartment building and learned there were several people trapped on a balcony.

Firefighters were able to rescue the four people from the balcony. Two of them, a 19-year-old woman and her 20-year-old boyfriend, were transported to a hospital for symptoms of smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.

The other two rescued from the balcony were checked out at the scene and were not taken to a hospital. A firefighter was also checked out for heat exhaustion, but is ok.

The fire was extinguished around 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
