It’s a new week and we are taking a look at what’s out there in the tropics.

We had mentioned last week about a disturbance that would move across the Yucatan Peninsula and emerge over the Bay of Campeche. That did happen, but the disturbance ran out of time to develop before it moved into Mexico, so that is out of the way.

Tropical update

We are watching a tropical wave that has been highlighted in the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea. It has a low chance of developing, 20% over the next seven days, and will be slowly moving toward the western part of the Caribbean Sea this week.

It is still far too soon to know exact locations that could be impacted by this system or even if it will develop at all, but it is something we are watching.

One thing that will definitely affect the latest wave and any tropical development in the near future is a plume of dust which has come off the coast of Africa.

These dust plumes cause the air to sink and introduce dry air, which usually greatly limits any tropical development in the areas the dust is over. We will watch and see what happens with this dust and how it impacts the tropics.
